The Agro Pontino
38
Cantina Villa Gianna cultivates 38 hectares of vineyards in Sabaudia, around 79 kilometres south of Rome. Here, the Pontine plain meets Circeo National Park, the Garden of Ninfa, the Lepini Mountains and the Terracina coast.
Constant sunshine and sea breezes carrying iodine and salt accompany every vineyard season. The Giannini family studies and interprets this balance of land and sea through experimentation that began in the 1980s.
Nature and mythology
541
The Circeo Promontory rises above the Pontine plain with its unmistakable silhouette. This 541-metre limestone hill is shaped by woodland, Mediterranean scrub, cliffs and caves overlooking the sea.
According to tradition, its silhouette evokes the sorceress Circe and connects this stretch of coast with Odysseus's journey. Geography, prehistory and mythology meet here, among scenic trails, Mediterranean habitats and ancient remains.
Sun, wind and the nearby sea also accompany the Giannini family's farming story and help define Cantina Villa Gianna's wines.
Around us
Cantina Villa Gianna is an ideal starting point for exploring the Agro Pontino, Circeo National Park and the Riviera di Ulisse. From the winery, day trips reach coastal villages, archaeological sites, natural landscapes and central Italy's Rationalist cities, including Sabaudia and Latina.
A winery visit fits naturally into a broader itinerary: a walk on the promontory, a day between Sperlonga and Gaeta, or a delicious stop on the journey between Rome and Naples.
